With all of that in mind: of course Outer Banks was renewed for a second season. The Heist Air date: With time running out, John B and Sarah strike an uneasy bargain Kiara, JJ and Pope search for evidence that could implicate Ward and Rafe. That’s the sixth-best showing ever, only behind Tiger King, 13 Reasons Why, Unsolved Mysteries, Floor is Lava and Dead to Me. In total, Outer Banks spent nine days in the top position. As Netflix ’s latest nostalgia-in-a-blender exercise, teen drama Outer Banks is designed to trigger memories of a dozen movies from the ’80s and at least as many TV shows, counting on those. Love is Blind is the only other show to have lost and then reclaimed the #1 spot. Outer Banks would reclaim the top position between May 4-7. The teen drama lost the #1 spot only to win it right back a few days later. Outer Banks held onto the top spot for five total days before falling off.īut then Outer Banks did something only one other show has accomplished. Nine days into Outer Banks’s Netflix stint, the show finally achieved the #1 position. The show unfortunately hit Netflix right when Tiger King was sweeping the nation and in the midst of an epic 27-day run in the #1 spot.īut right when the Tiger King hype was starting to wear down, that’s when Outer Banks made its run. Outer Banks’s first season debuted on June 15 in the #4 position on the Top 10. That’s something only two other shows have done: Ozark saw 57 consecutive days on the Top 10 between March and May, and Avatar: The Last Airbender just set the record with 61 consecutive appearances. Between April 15 and June 4, Outer Banks spent every single day on the daily Top 10 list (that’s 51 consecutive appearances). etc he said "underage drinking and shooting" so I decided to watch the show because of how good he said it was and I totally agree that it is NOT MA 15+ I understand that the ratings are for parents to help them but this is only MA because these kids in the show underage drink and there is mild swearing but only the s word I think the topic of drinking is around 15 and that why they made it MA 15+, great story line and would be great for 10 or 11 year old as at that age they start to mature and understand that this all fake! btw - im a Mum aged 39, its very easy to say no but you should think about this one because its very popular and I understand why kids want to watch it.In short, few shows have managed to dominate Netflix’s Top 10 like the first season of Outer Banks did this earlier year. When my 11 year old asked to watch outer banks I quickly said no because of the rating being MA 15+ but I soon decided to read some reviews and then said that it would be OK for my son to watch this series, in the end he told me he loved it but I made sure he told me things that had happened that were inappropriate. The 10-episode series assembles an attractive young cast in a sun-dappled setting for a neo-Scooby gang mystery that feels. Try to avoid this if you are concerned about any of the above themes I've just written about. Netflix is surely hoping Outer Banks is its next quarantine-era hit. Watching it with your kids and pointing out the concerns could be done.if you want your children to be annoyed with you. We are excited to be offering an OBX Location Tour, centered around the filming location and sights from the popular Netflix show. I have not come across any positive messages at this point. Geez girl, why didn't you just put out so the boy didn't get mad?! There's a scene where they find a gun and then they are waving it around like it's a toy and playing with it, pointing it at their friends. One girl stopped intimacy and the boy got very angry and basically said things implying that she was confusing or couldn't make up her mind.something like that. Lack of boundaries/consent passed off as normal or playful is not a good message for anyone. For example, one girl was telling a boy no to jumping off the roof into the pool (while he was holding her) and he didn't respect her and did it anyway. There are parties, drug use, a LOT of violence and fighting, language (language doesn't bother me), and the final straw was poor and dangerous examples of relationships. The characters are meant to be around 16 years old. I've watched the first few episodes and have not seen any "good messages". I do not understand the parents who have given this good reviews and watched it with their pre-teen children.

The engagement ring isn't the only piece of jewelry you'll need to budget for when going the custom route, Philippa tells us. If you're on a budget, Philippa recommends opting for stones like white sapphire or moissanite (a diamond alternative that's mainly lab-grown today), which can be far less expensive than a traditional diamond - and may sparkle slightly differently - but shine just as brightly. "People think that you need a huge budget for a custom piece or you even need a huge budget for an engagement ring in general," Philippa tells us, "that's definitely the misconception that I clear up the most." It actually is possible go custom while keeping the price down - it just all boils down to the stone you choose. But while tailor-made pieces do tend to run pricier than items that are part of an existing collection, that doesn't mean you need to start multiplying your monthly income to plan accordingly for your purchase. Naturally, one of the biggest sticking points for people when making the decision to go bespoke is budget. So if these things matter to you, having a direct line of communication with the person putting all the pieces together can be incredibly valuable. Philippa notes that many jewellers today, including herself, work with recycled or lab-grown diamonds, and often stones can be traced from mine to market. For example, you may really want to ensure the stones being used in the design were mined or created in an ethical, eco-friendly way. On a larger scale, the custom process makes for a more intimate, one-on-one relationship between you and the artisan, which can be helpful if you've got a revolving door of questions. "Or they might not want a claw setting that can catch in their hair or on things." "If they find jewelry to be uncomfortable, usually they don't want something that's going to stick up really high, or they don't want a solitaire setting where the stone is very high," Philippa says. For example, if your partner works with their hands but still wants to be able to wear their ring on a day-to-day basis, "I would recommend a certain style of setting," Philippa explains, "maybe a bezel setting, something that is more secure and protects all the edges of the stone." Likewise, if your partner doesn't wear a ton of jewelry, or finds it to be uncomfortable and irksome, a jeweller can work to create a more discreet design that won't feel bulky or get in the way. In addition to those aesthetic accommodations, a jeweller can help you with more practical concerns and decisions as well. "There could be chips or there could be scratches I just don't recommend using stones in a new piece." "Sometimes if your stone has been sitting in a setting for 100 years or 50 years it might not be as intact as a newly cut stone," she says. If you are hoping to use family stones in a custom piece, Philippa recommends getting them appraised ahead of time. It allows a very specific vision to be realized and for unique touches, whether that's playing with styles, metals and stones that aren't typically seen in engagement rings (coloured stones are a personal fave for Philippa, who does a lot of work with teal-tinged Montana Sapphires), or by integrating family stones that may carry a special meaning or history for you or your partner. The most obvious benefit of opting for a custom engagement ring over something from a collection is knowing that you're leaving with an entirely one-of-a-kind piece that can't be found on anyone else's finger or feed. Here are her thoughts on why going custom can be so special, what to keep in mind before you commit (to the process, not your partner), and how it all actually goes down. She and my fiancé got it so right, however, that I thought she was the perfect person to give us a full primer on what's involved. Philippa designed the engagement ring that now lives on my finger, though I was not involved in the design or purchasing process. Since there isn't a ton of information out there on how to approach the intimidating-from-the-outside process of commissioning a bespoke ring, we reached out to Toronto-based jewelry designer and goldsmith Eden Philippa, who's known for her timeless, vintage-inspired designs. There are two main paths people take when searching for the perfect engagement ring: heading straight to a jewelry counter, or finding an artisan who can create a custom piece. So if you've been thinking about proposing to your partner, you might be deep in the planning process or about to plunge right into it. Recent surveys by Brides and Wedding Wire both (separately) found that December is the most popular time to pop the question by far. The apparent influx of proposals in and around the holidays isn't merely anecdotal. Merry Engagement Season! Keaton disliked the series and critics regard it as the nadir of his career.ĭepression and alcoholism affected the careers of both Keaton and Bruckman. Most of the shorts were shot on a small budget and a time schedule of three days. Despite his frustration with the casual work ethic of his “all-talkie” successors, Keaton worked on and off as a comedy consultant for the studio until 1950, coaching comedy stars such as Red Skelton.īruckman and Keaton were reunited professionally for Pest from the West (1939), the first of 10 two-reel shorts for Columbia Pictures. Assigned to the Marx Brothers’ At the Circus (1939), the ever-punctual Keaton arrived at 8 a.m., while the brothers showed up after lunch. In 1937, he was back on the MGM payroll, this time as a gag writer. Both sides were unhappy with the partnership, so Keaton and MGM temporarily parted ways in February 1933. “The brass wanted to know how they could budget a show if we didn’t follow the script.” Although The Cameraman was a late silent-era hit, MGM reined in Keaton’s spendthrift habits. “ situation arises that has comic potential and likes to milk it for all it’s worth,” he told Keaton biographer Tom Dardis in 1977. Actor Harold Goodwin recalled friction between Keaton and his new bosses on the set of The Cameraman, Keaton’s first MGM picture. But MGM’s money-conscious producers, who were tackling the conversion to sound, wanted accountability. Keaton was accustomed to improvising gags around a rough story outline. Keaton worked as an independent for more than 10 years, making 19 shorts and 11 features before signing a contract with MGM in 1928. Fields in The Fatal Glass of Beer (1933), as well as writing scores of gags for the Three Stooges. He also worked with other comedy legends, directing Harold Lloyd in Welcome Danger (1929) and W.C. Bruckman was a key member of Keaton’s team in the 1920s, writing Sherlock Jr. and directing The General (1926). They became lifelong friends, sharing an affinity for cards and liquor. The two men spent four to five days a week at Keaton’s home, mapping out elaborate stunts. When he stepped in front of the camera to make his film debut in Arbuckle’s The Butcher Boy (1917), he was just beginning to exploit the camera’s potential.Īt Comique, Keaton first met gag-writer Clyde Bruckman, who understood the actor’s “man against mechanics” approach to physical comedy. He took it completely apart, studied every piece, and returned it intact the next morning. He was so intrigued by the camera that he asked to take one home. Keaton first stepped onto a film set in 1917 at Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle’s Comique Film Corporation. When he turned to filmmaking, he combined his comic timing and willingness to court danger with the added element of the camera, bringing it close to the action, so the audience could feel the actor’s peril. He had honed a repertoire of pratfalls in his early years in Vaudeville, where he had been flung around the stage for comic effect as part of a family act. Yet Keaton was singular in his willingness to risk life and limb, determined to outdo himself with every picture. Pearl White, Tom Mix, Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, and Harold Lloyd were among the silent-era stars who performed their own stunts. During a routine physical examination 11 years later, an X-ray revealed that Keaton had fractured his neck. Despite being in severe pain, the always professional 29-year-old got up to finish the scene. During the shoot, the water gushed out with such force that Keaton lost his grip and was thrown to the track below, hitting his head on the rail. Jumping from the top of a moving freight car, he swings down to grab the water tower’s release rope. The scenario, with its nonstop string of stage gags and illusions, allowed Keaton to perform some of his most impressive stunts, one of which nearly cost him his life. In his fourth feature-length film, Sherlock Jr. (1924), he plays a projectionist who falls asleep and dreams he’s the star of a movie about a “crime-crushing” detective. While his characters walked away stone-faced and unharmed, the actor often suffered serious injury. From the destruction of a railroad bridge―with a train on top―in The General (1926) to the collapse of a house around his ears in Steamboat Bill Jr. (1928), Buster Keaton went to great lengths to entertain his public. It takes time to get fit and build strength, so don’t expect changes overnight. The best way to hit your fitness targets is to work up to them gradually. Rather than setting a New Year resolution that you have to uphold, Zarabi recommends adopting a new day resolution in which every day provides a new opportunity to get closer to your goals. “Too many people don’t know their limits and sometimes our minds can be a little deceiving where we think we could do more than we actually could,” Sharon Zarabi, a registered dietitian and personal fitness trainer in New York, told Healthline. “This can excite and motivate people in the beginning but often leads to unrealistic expectations and commitments instead of gradually integrating new habits so that they become part of your lifestyle,” says Taryn Toomey, the founder of the physical conditioning workout The Class.Īs a result, some people end up putting a lot of pressure on themselves to do an extreme amount of exercise in a short amount of time. There’s a lot of buzz and pressure from our society to live by the slogan “New Year, New Me.” The New Year is often marketed as a time for improvement or new beginnings. But you also don’t need to be an asshole and wish that the newbies were gone just so you no longer have to share oxygen with them at the gym.īe a decent person - it costs nothing to be kind to new people at your gym.‘New Year, New Me’ isn’t the best approach You don’t have to be outwardly nice to everyone. Help the new members who don’t yet know how to navigate the space or where some of the equipment is located.Īnd if it really bothers you so much that the gym is that packed, try going at a different time so you can avoid the crowd. If you see someone struggling with some weight, ask them if they need a spot. If you see someone that is not performing an exercise correctly, kindly show them the proper form. Or you can always modify your routine, use other machines or free weights for some exercises. Instead, skip to the next part of your routine and come back later rather than make them uncomfortable. If you’re a regular and someone new is using a machine you normally use, don’t stand there waiting for them to be done. The thing is, those new people are there for the same reasons that we go - for fitness, for health, for a better body and newly-discovered self-confidence. So, instead of being rude to them, please be nice and helpful. And for them to walk in there and have regulars be mean to them can make their quest for self-betterment feel even more discouraging, if not outright impossible. So mentally, the gym can be an intimidating place. Sometimes these people have low self-esteem and low confidence. Some of these people may be over or underweight, and they just want to look and feel better. Sometimes these people have eating disorders and complicated relationships with food. Those people are at the gym because they made a decision to become a healthier version of themselves - and that is something to be proud of. Don’t be that asshole who makes fun of new gym-goers. But, please be nice to all the new people. You have to wait to use machines, squat racks, dumbbells and everything else. However, it’s important to remember that all these newbies are on the way. Yes, I know, it freaking sucks – the gym is crowded with a bunch of new people and you’re trying to do your routine. But why hate or be mean to those people? Weren’t we all once a newbie at the gym? But during those weeks, their mere presence rankles the regulars. Yes, it’s true that some resolutioners only stick with such a change for a few weeks or even a few months. Every single year, I hear so many regulars complain how the “newbies” are just taking up space and, “Why are they even here if they will eventually stop going?”. This is the time of the year when New Year’s resolutioners show up at the gym in a bid to improve their health or fitness. And for us, regulars, the first few months of the year are rough. I’ve been going to the gym for years now. Putting a new belt on is merely the reverse of this process. Finally, disconnect and remove the battery so you can get the drive belt off the transaxle pulley. Then you can release the belt from the pulleys and belt guides. You will need a wrench to hold the engine crankshaft in place while removing the engine pulley bolt and washer. To remove and replace this belt, take off the flywheel screen cap. Once you have the part, disconnect your spark plug and pull the deck out from under your mower. According to Troy Bilt, this is eleven digits long and located on the left side of the Product Identification Label. You can find the right size by locating your model number. When your wheels don’t turn, try swapping your drive belt for a new MTG belt specific to your model. Troy Bilt riding mowers need an exact fit. It’s common to get the wrong size or use a generic but slightly off-width replacement. If the belt breaks, the lawn tractor won’t move.”Ī surprising amount of the time, the problem is that a mower has the wrong belt. As Sears points out, “The ground drive belt connects the engine crankshaft to the transaxle pulley to drive the rear wheels. The drive belt on your Troy Bilt Riding mower does what it sounds like. That should disengage the blades.Īlways start with the blades off. You’ll find it next to the driver’s seat on the right-hand side of the mower’s fender.ĭoing this is the only way to tell the engine to send power to those blades. Your PTO lever is what engages the blades. If this is the problem, you are in luck because the fix only takes about a minute. While this might seem odd, it’s actually a safety feature to help prevent accidents. You cannot get your Troy Bilt Riding mower to move without disengaging the blades and putting the parking brake on. Your owner’s manual will have specific details. Other models may use a slightly different system to engage the parking brake, such as pushing down the clutch. If you forget to hold down the regular brake, the parking brake will not be on the next time you climb on. If you get in the habit of following this routine, you’ll have fewer moments when your mower won’t move.įor the Troy Bilt Super Bronco, you will need to fully depress the brake pedal and hold it in while you press the parking brake button. First, turn off the blades using the PTO, then put your transmission in neutral.Īfter that, set your parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove your key. 2 – Disengaged Parking BreakĪny time you stop your Troy Bilt Riding mower, please follow the manufacturer-recommended steps. The vents in your gas cap allow air to flow into the engine, so the fuel doesn’t create a vacuum and vapor lock as you work. All you need do is quite literally unscrew it and put a new compatible cap in place. Gas caps are the easiest to remove and replace. Unfortunately, doing this risks leaving debris behind to collect, and then you’ll have the same problem over again. In some cases, you can clear a blockage manually. You’ll find a small metal clamp at each end, and once you loosen those, it is simple enough to pull the line away. Replacing clogged fuel lines is usually as simple as draining the engine, popping the line off at both ends, and putting a new one in its place. Though it is specific to the Troy-Bilt TB130, it will still give you a step-by-step visual example of the process. I recommend watching this video if you don’t know how to change your fuel filter. Long before you can’t get your mower to move, you’ll have start and stop issues where the engine dies or runs erratically.Įnsure that you check fuel and oil levels regularly and change your fuel filters as often as the manufacturer recommends for your model, usually after fifty to ninety hours of use. Gas inside your mower should always be ‘new,’ which means less than thirty days old.Ī fuel filter will usually warn you when there’s a problem. For example, old or incorrect fuel may not run the engine at all. Your fuel and air system can cause problems with your Troy Bilt Riding mower in several different ways. Luckily, I can help you troubleshoot the top five reasons why your Troy Bilt Mower won’t move so you can get your lawn back to its ordinarily pristine condition. Worse still, the idea of taking anything apart yourself to fix it can be daunting. There’s nothing worse than getting ready to go out and take care of a messy yard only to discover your mower won’t move. Phoenix Celtic SymbolismĪccording to The Celtic Unconscious: Joyce and Scottish Culture by Richard Barlow ( 6), the word ‘burns’ is fittingly used to represent both fire and water in Finnegans Wake, which is associated with the mythical Phoenix and natural cycles of the seasons respectively.īoth burning and flowing are processes and ‘burns’ are linked to the continuously variable and shifting nature of art and human communities as well.īurn also means ‘to combust’ or ‘to incinerate’ and is also the Scots word for ‘stream.’ (For example, the Bannock Burn – the 14th Century battlefield near Falkirk). These great signs appear in Egypt and nowhere else, signifying that it is the paradise of the Gods. Thus the phoenix sign is the consummation of the age. The phoenix first appears alive, then dies, then rises again. It is written of it in the Bible: ‘The just will sprout like the phoenix”. Like the Egyptians and Greeks, the medieval Christian writers saw this myth as a symbol of resurrection and one of the symbols of renewal and hope. The worm that is brought forth from the dead phoenix is a human being. From there emerges a small ‘worm’ that transforms due to the heat of the Sun into a new phoenix. The bird embalms these in an egg made of myrrh and deposits them in the Temple of the Sun.Īt the end of its life, the bird builds a nest of incense twigs and lays down in it and dies. It comes to Heliopolis bringing with it its father’s ashes. Early Greek legend describes the story of the phoenix as that of a bird similar to an eagle but in red and gold. Its legend was developed further by the Greeks and Romans. ( 3) Phoenix Christianity SymbolismĪccording to ‘The Mythical Creatures Bible: The Definitive Guide to Legendary Beings’ by Brenda Rosen ( 4), the Phoenix is probably the best known creature of the air and has its origins in ancient Egypt. Since it was associated with the weather, its feathers were used for healing, for magic, and to make it rain or grow crops as well.Īs the bird became symbolic of rain and the weather, the Native Americans also believed the phoenix bird meaning meant growth, abundance, and power. Thus, the thunderbird played an important role in Native American rituals and traditions. It had very strong wings and when the bird would flap and beat them, it was capable of making it rain and thunder. Thunderbird was a powerful cross-cultural element of Native North American mythology.Īs in other cultural representations, the thunderbird of the Native Americans was also a large, red, and colorful bird. Native Americans called the phoenix the thunderbird. In fact, almost all legends of the Phoenix and stories tell the same tale of how the bird is unique and has no mates or young.ĭepending on where you read this legend, the phoenix is capable of living anywhere between 500 to 7000 years. In America, the phoenix symbol was depicted on the first Great Seal of the United States in 1782. ( 2) Phoenix Native American SymbolismĪlthough most people believe that the origin of the phoenix is in Greece, it is actually a global symbol of rebirth. In fact, it has generally become the symbol of any kind of renewal that, with it, brings a period of happiness and good fortune. Through these legends and literary representations, the phoenix has become a symbol of the renewal of time. It is no wonder that the beautiful bird has inspired many tales, poems, and even legends. This is symbolic of rebirth, hope, renewal, progress, end of oppression, and eternity. What does a phoenix rising from the ashes mean? A new phoenix rises from the ashes of its dead predecessor. In that sense, it is very much like Virgin Mary and hence it has significance in Christianity as well. Thus, there is phoenix meaning symbolism in almost every culture around the world. In Hindu mythology, the phoenix is similar to Garuda – an immortal bird that is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. In China, the phoenix is very similar to the bird that is known as the leader of the birds- the Feng-huan. Egyptians believe that the Phoenix represents their sun God Ra and the city of Heliopolis. What is a phoenix? The word phoenix comes from the ancient Greek word Φοίνιξ which represents a firebird having its origins in many mythologies. Whether you have been dreaming of the phoenix or wish to get a phoenix tattoo, this guide will help you understand different phoenix characteristics, so you will know exactly what does a Pheonix symbolize? It symbolizes rebirth and eternity and is also representative of hope. Everybody is familiar with the idea of Phoenix symbolism – a bird that rises from the aftermath of fire from its ashes. Yet, the framework also invites the architects to look beyond the confines and let the building speak for itself. These points are fairly presumed as the framework of ethical architecture and an architect must reason and practice within the confines of the framework. An architect’s monetary needs, the conflicting requirements of the client, the interest of serving the public, and the devotion to the art of architecture. IAI) dots four tension points in an architect’s life. The Confines of Ethical ArchitectureĬarl Sapers (Hon. What an architect morally brings to the table is what decides whether the project in itself was ethically conceived and carried out, or not. The responsibility of the architect has rapidly changed over time, and so has ethical behavior. He/she must design, resolve, manage, coordinate and morally influence. Moreover, the building and construction industry is much less concerned about the ills of ethical practices and does find a scapegoat in the form of an ‘architect’ and thus the ‘architect’ must come to the realization that his/her role is changing every day, and from one project to another. Globalization has made architects assign value to their name, and corporate holdings splash out to get the best ones to design for them. Ethics and Economic Values Architects have been affected by the economic value of globalization_© Denis Nevozhai Is the architect a father figure, or has he/she concluded to operate on the same level as the people around him? Norman Foster, Tadao Ando, and Zaha Hadid would probably beg to differ from the latter. But does the architect, the one who conceptualizes the form and draws the lines that take shape in time, manage what is around him, or does he/she coordinate with people whom he takes under his wings. The emergence of globalization and customization, in the post-Ford era, has made ethical economics a necessity while labor rights and humane movements have accorded a sense of equality for the worker. Should importance be given more to the client than to the public or should one’s devotion to the field precede overall? When influence can be wielded, does one follow the codes of conduct that empathize with the larger context and the crowd or should one turn around to face only what he/she builds? Separated by the responsibility towards different sections (like the client, the public, and so on), one could easily ask, what and where the priority of responsibility would lie. The International Interior Design Association has mapped down guidelines that professionals are expected to follow when practicing. The Priority Of Responsibility Should an architect feel responsible for the larger context?_©Joseph Eid. And so in that regard, it would make sense to then gather that architects and interior designers alike can be questioned on the subject of ethics. They affect and more than often even shape the life of the people that inhabit their spaces. Perhaps that’s why architects are given licenses for their practice. “Architects have a higher moral duty than other artists since they have the greatest power to shape society,” she writes. New York Times columnist Janice Turner explicitly argues on the contrary. Meades continues by arguing that if other creative professionals are not concerned with the question of ethics, what rights do architects have for the same?
